Be Alert of FCM containing Bamboo fibre to EU market(RASFF)-May 2021 |

In May 2021, the RASFF of EU have notified 16 cases of FCM products, 10 cases (63.5%) of which were bamboo- melamine plastic products. The details are as below:

In a joint letter published February
15, 2021, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands together demand the
withdrawal of bamboo-melamine plastic products from the EU market, because bamboo e.g. ground bamboo and bamboo
flour are not currently authorised for use with plastic food contact materials
under Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011.
Besides Belgium, Luxembourg, and the
Netherlands, Finland and Ireland also announced to not allow to sale or import
plastic FCM containing unauthorised vegetable fibres such as bamboo flour or
rice flour.
At present, the number of
reported cases of bamboo fiber products is increasing, and the control of such
materials in some EU countries is becoming more and more strict. Please be
alert of the new policy!
