On 14 November 2015, the EU Offical Journal published a new regulation (EU) 2015/2030, amending Regulation (EC) No 850/2004 on persistent organic pollutants(POPs) as regards Annex I. According to the amendment, the production, placing on the market and use of substances or preparations containing SCCPs in concentrations lower than 1 % by weight or articles containing SCCPs in concentrations lower than 0,15 % by weight shall be allowed.

1. Restriction: The production, placing on the market and use of substances or preparations containing SCCPs in concentrations lower than 1 % by weight shall be allowed. Placing on the market and use of articles produced before or on 10 July 2012 containing SCCPs as a constituent of such articles shall be allowed until 10 January 2013. 2. Exemption: (a) fire retardants in rubber used in conveyor belts in the mining industry; (b) fire retardants in dam sealants. |

SCCPs are mainly used as coating of leathers, plasticizer of PVC and chlorinated rubbers, retardant of plastics and textiles. SCCPs are identified as POPs because of its biological toxicity.
